Updog, aka Upward Facing Dog, aka Urdhva Mukha Svanasana, is one of the most commonly practiced yoga poses, but not one of the easiest. Part of the Vinyasa Flow, Updog is usually practiced on an inhale following Chaturanga. As only the hands and the tops of the feet are touching the mat it requires arm, shoulder and leg strength, as well as an actively wide chest to help open the upper body. This pose is fantastic for sciatica, opening the front of the hips and lengthening of the spine. Come to either (or both) of my classes today at Sangha Yoga Shala to work on yours!
